ABOUT JOYCE
As one of the Hanson 12, Joyce Hanson was woven into the fabric of her family in a way that felt permanent. We did not expect to lose Joyce first. In fact, we expected her to always be there—sending birthday cards without fail, handmaking us our holiday ornaments, and reminding us, year after year, that we were loved. Joyce passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 9, 2026, and her absence feels impossible to imagine.
Born and raised in Barrett, with some excursions along the way, Joyce always returned home to give back to those who mattered most to her—her family and her community, which to her were one and the same.
Joyce was a pillar of the Barrett community—someone people turned to for support, guidance, and comfort. She had an enormous heart and a steady, giving spirit. Joyce never asked for anything in return; she gave simply because it brought her joy. Whether through her time, her care, or her quiet acts of kindness, she continued to give freely, finding happiness in lifting others up.
Family was at the center of Joyce’s life. She was deeply devoted to those she loved and was the favorite aunt to her 25 nieces and nephews. They knew that no matter what was going on in their lives—whether they were celebrating or in trouble—showing up at Joyce’s doorstep meant they would always be met with open doors, understanding, and loving arms.
Joyce gave generously to countless groups and local community efforts, always looking for ways to support and strengthen those around her. In keeping with her giving spirit, the family asks that you consider honoring Joyce’s memory by donating to one of the organizations listed below.
Joyce will be remembered for her huge heart, her selflessness, and her unwavering commitment to others. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the family she treasured, the community she supported, and the many lives she touched through her generosity.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love, support, and kindness shown during this difficult time, and asks that Joyce be remembered by continuing to care for one another the way she always did—with unwavering love.
